Graduate Assistant with Residential Life & Housing department working 20 hours per week/300 hours per semester.

Pay Rate:

$8.34 per hour

Job Summary:

The Graduate Assistant (GA) is a pre-professional staff member who is expected to assist and help lead a residential community.  The GA is directly responsible for the overall operations and assisting managing of a residence hall and its staff and reports directly to Associate Director. The GA serves as a mentor, role model, and resource person to student workers, residents, and community members. A GA works with a Head Resident, a Resident Advisor team and oversees a desk worker team as needed with their AD. A GA models excellent service supporting the collegiate experience within and outside of the residence halls. The GA will practice and integrate the Residential Life and Housing Core Values (Relationally Driven, Student Centered, Learning Focused, and Know and Be Known) daily as well as actively modeling the Way of the Warrior tenants. 

Employment Dates:

  • Reports to the Associate Director (or designated professional within Residential Life and Housing).
  • FALL 2024 - The Graduate Assistant will move-in August 7, 2024, by 4:00 pm. Training will begin on this date, and they are to hold no other commitments through December 16, 2024.
  • SPRING 2025 - The Graduate Student Workers in Operations move-in January 4, 2025, by4:00 pm. Training will begin on this date and they are to hold no other commitments through May 12, 2025.
  • August 22-25, 2024 - Residence Halls Open for the Fall 2024 Semester
  • November 26, 2024 - Residence Halls Close at 7:00 pm. Graduate Assistants are required to stay until 7:00 pm.
  • December 1, 2024 - Residence Halls Open at 12:00 pm. Graduate Assistants and those scheduled to work are required to return by 12:00 pm.
  • December 13, 2024 - Residence Halls Close at 7:00 pm for Fall 2024 Semester.Graduate Assistants are required to stay until 7:00 pm on December 16, 2024.
  • January 19, 2025 - Residence Halls Open for Spring 2024 Semester. Graduate Assistants will return according to the training dates as outlined above.
  • March 6, 2025 - Residence Halls Close at 7:00 pm for Spring Break. Graduate Assistants are required to stay until 7:00 pm.
  • March 15, 2025 - Residence Halls Open at 12:00pm. Graduate Assistants and those scheduled to work are required to return by 12:00 pm
  • May 9, 2025 - Residence Halls Close for the Spring 2025 Semester. All staff are required to stay until 12:00 pm on May 12, 2025.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee residential communities and supervise Resident Advisor staff teams assigned for the 24-25 academic year.
  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate hall staff, which may include Resident Assistants and front desk staff
  • Provide leadership coaching for the hall volunteer leadership team in organizing and implementing events for students
  • Plan and facilitate weekly student RA staff meetings to coordinate initiatives, share information and provide ongoing training and development
  • Provide direction and accountability to student staff for the enforcement and proper documentation of Housing and Residence Life policies
  • Create opportunities for team building, interaction, and cooperation for Residential Life team members (residence hall staff and leadership team)
  • Meet regularly with student staff members to discuss community issues, resident concerns, and monitor progress of the staff member
  • Meet regularly with leadership team members to provide ongoing training, discuss upcoming events, provide direction and guidance, and evaluate activities.
  • Complete assigned organizational projects and committee work
  • Perform administrative tasks in accordance with established Housing and Residence Life procedures and deadlines
  • Utilize The Housing Director to assist with occupancy management and front desk operations
  • Manage internal residence hall budget
  • Address and monitor facility concerns, maintenance, repairs, and cleanliness
  • Provide and promote educational opportunities focusing on awareness and appreciation of cultural differences and building an inclusive and respectful community
  • Promote and support the mission and vision of East Stroudsburg University, the Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence Division, and Housing and Residence Life
  • Support activities planned and implemented by the hall's student staff and Leadership Team promote an environment conducive to academic success, development, and learning
  • Be available to assist in all openings and all closings of their assigned residence hall
  • Build in good working relationship with student staff and Pro Staff. Serve as a resource and referral person for university operations and the functions of the various University administrative offices.
  • Actively and regularly communicate with supervisor and other staff members using multiple means (electronic and in person) as defined by supervisor.
  • Recognize and fulfill responsibilities with evacuation drills and other emergency situations.
  • Maintain clear communications and positive working relationships with ALL University staff members.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting housekeeping, maintenance, and safety problems (report issues to building RAs so they can submit an appropriate work orders).
  • Respect individual privacy and the confidential nature of information about individual students.
  • Maintain regular office hours and be available to assist during special nights and weekends (opening, closing, etc.).
  • Intentionally and actively practice the Way of the Warrior tenants.
  • Remain in good academic standing by maintaining a minimum overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 during the period of employment. Failure to maintain the minimum GPA may result in loss of employment or other disciplinary action.
  • Comply with and enforce all Federal, State and Local Laws, as well as all University regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION: Full Housing Waiver (due to residential and campus responsibilities throughout the academic year) and Hourly Rate of Pay
